General Food Distribution

The September 2012 monsoon rains have destroyed standing crops in Pakistan Poor rural families including several parts of Balochistan where many of whom are tenant farmers, have been left destitute with no means to feed their children. Initial assessments indicate that food aid is among the most prioritized needs of the affected population. Women Development & Community Organization in partnership with WFP has provided food assistance to 7619 flood-affected families (57142 individuals) of District Nasirabad in Balochistan. The project was aimed at supporting WFP’s intervention of providing food assistance to 7618 flood affected families (6627 severely affected families and 990 highly affected families) in District Nasirabad of Balochistan Province in the Month of October and 6627 severely affected families in November, December 2012 and January February 2013. Through this project WDCO, with the support of WFP, 2327metric tons of food for flood affected families from various field level distribution points. WDCO has set up food distribution points in each UC within Nasirabad District.

The project has served beneficiary households in Nasirabad with one month food ration (for 3 months) to enabling them to meet their most immediate food and nutritional needs. During the emergency phase, the food basket contains a monthly food ration of following items

WFP has provided one month food ration for three months for an average family size of 6 people per family. This ration has been distributed to the head of a family (male or female) and issued based on criteria and National Identity Card Number.
